Net metering is what turns a rooftop solar system from a generator into a money saver. Your bi-directional meter counts the units you export to the grid and adjusts them against the units you draw at night, so you pay only for the difference. Here is how the process works with MPPoKVVCL, the DISCOM that supplies eastern Madhya Pradesh, including Rewa, Satna, Sidhi and Singrauli.

Step 1: Site survey and load study

The system size you can connect under net metering is linked to your sanctioned load, which is printed on your MP Vidyut electricity bill. A proper installer starts by reading that, measuring your shadow-free roof area and studying your past bills before recommending a size.

Step 2: Portal registration and feasibility application

For residential systems, the application starts on the PM Surya Ghar National Portal, and a net-metering feasibility request is lodged with the MPPoKVVCL divisional office. The DISCOM checks that the local transformer can accept your export. Your installer should file and track this for you.

Step 3: Installation

Once feasibility is cleared, the panels, inverter, earthing and a bi-directional net meter are installed. For subsidy eligibility the work must be done by a vendor registered on the national portal.

Step 4: Inspection, meter testing and commissioning

MPPoKVVCL inspects the installation, tests the net meter and commissions your grid connection. From this point your meter runs both ways.

Step 5: Subsidy credit and monthly savings

After commissioning, the central subsidy is credited directly to your bank account, and every unit you export starts appearing as an adjustment on your monthly bill.

How long does it take?

With complete documents and a responsive installer, the full cycle from application to a commissioned net meter typically takes a few weeks. Delays usually come from incomplete paperwork or transformer capacity checks, which is why it matters that your installer has a local liaison relationship with the DISCOM.
